Carding is a crucial process in the textile industry, where fibers are disentangled, cleaned, and intermixed to produce a continuous web suitable for subsequent processing. This process involves several components, including rollers, strippers, and cross lappers. Rollers, also known as workers, work in conjunction with strippers to form a carding triad that individualizes fiber tufts and ensures a homogeneous web. Cross lappers further contribute by laying the web into a batt, which is then used for creating non-woven materials. The precision and efficiency of these machines are vital for the quality of the final textile product.

The hardening process for wool felt is a critical step in its manufacturing. It begins with layering wool fibers into a mat, known as a “batt,” which is then subjected to steam and pressure in a hardener. This mechanical action causes the fibers to interlock, effectively joining the batts to form the initial stage of wool felt.

The fulling process involving a series of rollers that work the material to its desired density. It is the next crucial step, where the fabric is further compressed and manipulated to strengthen and shrink it, achieving the desired thickness and texture. This traditional craft blends artistry with technique, allowing for endless creativity in producing unique and beautiful felted pieces.

The felt is dried to remove any residual moisture in our 450’ dryer. This process ensures the felt is strong, durable, and ready for various applications. We can load up to four rolls at a time for more efficiency in this industrial sized dryer.
